Subsidiarity (federalism) was incorporated into our U.S. Constitution and our Bill of Rights by our founding fathers and the citizens of the original thirteen states. Today, the two major political factions in the United States apply this bastion of freedom differently:
- Democrats believe the subsidiarity established by our founding fathers should not be applied. They believe our national government and central planning are best for our citizens. They are modern day Tories who approve of more central government power to help them.
- Republicans believe that subsidiarity should continue to be applied. Republicans believe that 50 smaller republics, with some limited and enumerated central planning, is the best way to protect individual freedom. They are modern day Patriots who seek a more limited government to permit more freedom for individuals.
