2016 Progressives – Was It Their Policies Or Was It Mrs. Clinton?

Posted on November 23, 2016 John Abood

2020 Update: The U.S. Department of Justice and the FBI have revealed in documents that Mrs. Clinton hatched a plot to discredit Mr. Trump, in order to divert attention from her email scandal. Documents reveal that the Obama administration Department of Justice and the FBI implemented Mrs. Clinton’s plan.

The delegates to the Democratic Party convention selected Hillary Clinton as their nominee to run for the Presidency of the United States. Broadly they were in agreement on their policies…statism – left or more left.

Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Sanders presented reasoned yet very different policies to the Democratic party faithful as they attempted to win their party’s nomination. Mrs. Clinton is taking a traditional liberal stance on the various political issues, while Mr. Sanders is offering a more populist and socialist set of policies. The standard liberal policies of Mrs. Clinton have a better chance of being accepted by the older traditional liberals and the Congress if she becomes president of the United States. The progressive and populist policies of Mr. Sanders offer a clear step toward more socialism to the younger and more progressive citizens of the United States. While Mrs. Clinton is nominated by the Democrats as their candidate, our legislatures (state and federal) will determine the laws and the level of public sector programs which will be implemented.

Moderates prefer the traditional liberal policy approach of Mrs. Clinton, but do not trust Mrs. Clinton as an individual. Besides dynastic “Clinton fatigue,” there appears to be serious questions on the minds of many citizens regarding whether she can be trusted to govern and tell us the truth. Many are also concerned about the influence of foreign and corporate donations to the Clinton Foundation. As with any candidate for political office, her character and trustworthiness is always a first consideration for anyone who votes. When asked by a reporter, “Have you always told the truth?” Clinton responded, “I’ve always tried to.” With an answer like that, we will not have to worry about Mrs. Clinton surpassing the standard for truth set by Presidents Washington and Carter. By the way, what “truthiness” did Americans receive those times she tried to tell the truth, but was unsuccessful?

In some respect, it’s too bad the Democrat Super-delegates pushed Mr. Sanders to the sidelines. A Sanders/Trump competition may have resulted in a different outcome.
